33rd World Othello Championship
in Gent, Belgium

We are pleased to announce that the 33rd Annual World Othello Championship will be held in Gent, Belgium, November 4 - 7, 2009. The venue for the WOC will be at the Gent Meeting Center in the city of Gent.

The tournament will be sponsored by Anjar Co., MegaHouse Corporation and Mattel, and our hosts will be the Belgian Othello Association. The Belgian Tournament Directors will be Tom Schotte and Akke-lien de Boer together with Benkt Steentoft and Emmanuel Lazard.

Gent is a city rich in well preserved architecture and culture. It's located 30 miles northwest of Brussels, and is the capital and biggest city of East Flanders. The Gent Meeting Center is centrally located in Gent and is perfectly suited for the WOC. We will enjoy the Conference facilities for the actual tournament play. Visit the Conference centers official website for more details. For those interested in staying at hotel, we have reserved a block of rooms at discounted prices at hotel Express By Holiday Inn. Please refer to the World Othello Championship Tournament when making room reservations.

In addition to the cash prizes, trophies will be awarded to the First through Fourth Place Winners and Team Trophies will go to each member of the winning country. The Champion will have his or her name permanently inscribed on the rotating Othello Trophy, alongside the previous 32 World Othello Champions.

The Welcome Reception will be held at the Gent Meeting Center on Wednesday, November 4th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. In keeping with tradition, first round pairings will be drawn at the Reception.

Lunch will be served at the Tournament Site for all players and official guests on Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6 and on Saturday, November 7 for the finalists and working staff.
